Child Abuse Prevention

GVC secured funding for a pilot project to assist in the prevention of child sexual abuse in Merced County. The funding came as part of the federal Child Abuse Protection and Treatment Act (CAPTA) through the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families.

The program includes outreach to local parents and guardians, including a DVD video. Parents and guardians throughout the County can use the video, which is produced in Spanish as well as English, as a resource in helping to prevent or stop child abuse and how to talk to children about the sensitive topic.

GVC consulted with multiple agencies in the County to implement the program, including Merced County Office of Education, Merced County Human Services Agency and Valley Crisis Center.

The pilot project received short-term funding through the September 2012 timeframe.
