Economic development is not limited to attracting businesses from outside the region. National experts and local successes will meet in Chico on Octover 21, 2004 to share their thoughts on how successful locally-focused business models, marketing, and financing can be the basis of distinctive economic growth. The event will be held at the Chico-based Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, a prime example of local innovation.

Great Valley Center events bring together individuals who hold diverse views on a wide range of issues. The opinions expressed by speakers or participants do not necessarily reflect the views of the Great Valley Center, its Board of Directors or staff.

Registration $35 through September 30, $45 thereafter, $50 at the door.

Iowa State University’s Dr. Frederick Kirschenmann will headline the all-day event that will include presentations by speakers who have given special thought to how the Sacramento Valley can develop an “authentic economy” built on its natural strengths. The event will also feature Don Macke, Co-Director, Center for Rural Entrepreneurship (Lincoln, NE)

REPORT RELEASE: The Entrepreneurial Sacramento Valley. The first comprehensive look at the patterns of entrepreneurship and the impacts on regional economic development in the Sacramento Valley.


The Great Valley Center’s Sacramento Valley Forum is an annual event focusing on the issues and interests of California’s Sacramento Valley. The forum brings together business and community leaders, governmental officials, farmers, environmentalists and individuals who have an interest in the future of the region.
