California becoming cleantech capital - Top flight research universities and labs with eyes toward commercializing their research, a top-flight workforce ready for green collar jobs, venture capitalists and other investors with at least some appetite for risk in return for the big payout, and a political environment friendly to the development of green technologies have combined to put California near the center of the U.S. cleantech map. Agency passes house funds - The Redding Redevelopment Agency on Monday night unanimously endorsed the idea of granting $1.2 million in subsidies for affordable housing in a large new subdivision proposed for the north side of town by a private, for-profit developer. Fire and Rice: Byproduct produced from local growers helps protect barren Concow Hills from rain threat - The straw will help control erosion and lead to new vegetation on 793 acres. Weedless straw is taken from straw bales, "fluffed up," and put into nets that are hauled by helicopter and dropped onto burned areas. Chico Enterprise Record article
