El Dorado County is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada and stretches into the eastern most part of the Sacramento Valley. El Dorado is part of California’s Gold Country and many present-day towns in the county have grown from the sites of gold mining camps set up during the California gold rush.
El Dorado County has three incorporated cities, with the City of Placerville at its county seat:
