In 1987,
recognizing the seriousness of the dropout problem,
Citibank stepped forward to support successful
dropout prevention efforts and encourage new ideas
by creating the Citibank Success Fund. The
Fund, now called the Citi Success Fund,
provides small cash grants to educators for developing
innovative, easily replicable, grassroots programs
that provide students with an opportunity to succeed
and to associate that success with continued school
attendance. In 2005, because of the Great Valley
Center's experience in administering such programs,
Citibank asked the Great Valley Center to help
set up and run the Citi Success Fund in California's
Central Valley.
What
We Fund
Citi Success
Fund grants will be awarded to K-12 classroom
teachers. Priority will be given to programs
uniquely designed to do one or more of the following:
- Educate students in financial literacy—consumer
banking, basics of credit, home buying, asset
and debt management, investing, etc.
- Building awareness of post-secondary education and career options
- Assisting students throughout the college search, application and financial aid process
Grant funds
may NOT be used for:
- Staff salaries or personal honorariums for
the applicant (substitute costs are allowed).
- Expansion and/or maintenance of previous grants
(Citigroup Success Fund or other).
Grants will range from $1000 to $2,500. Grant
requests at the higher end of the range should
be justified by the complexity of the program
and the number of students it will affect. If
field trips, equipment or substitute coverage
are included in the budget, the proposal must
demonstrate that these items are one necessary
component of the proposal's larger strategy.
Where We Fund
Grants will be given in the following Central
Valley subregions, with an emphasis on communities
where Citibank has a presence:
- Greater Sacramento Area: Placer, Sacramento,
Yolo, and San Joaquin Counties, Nevada
- Northern San Joaquin Valley: Stanislaus and
Merced Counties
- Central San Joaquin Valley: Madera and Fresno
Counties
- Southern San Joaquin Valley: Kings, Tulare,
and Kern Counties
Deadline & Implementation
Applications must be submitted by the
new deadline of April 28, 2008. Grant
awardees will be notified over the summer. Program
implementation
will
begin
in October and will be completed by June. In
the event that the applicant is reassigned
or leaves
the applying organization, thus preventing the
implementation of the program, grant approval
will be reconsidered.
