Community builders
can enhance the lives of citizens and
add measurably to the great heritage of
the Central Valley by giving value to
place.
A follow-up to the Housing
the Next 10 Million design competition
and the result of a semester-long urban
design course at UC Berkeley, The Value
of Place takes a look at growth in the
Central Valley. Led by Donlyn Lyndon and
Charles Correa, the class studied Stockton,
California to better understand Valley
towns and to create broad, general strategies
to accommodate growth in them while retaining
the unique character of the region. The
class was composed of design professionals
from around the globe who were returning
to school to strengthen skills and study
urban design and planning in an international
context.
