$1,000 Acorn Community Enterprises Youth Group Youth Activities To bridge the gap between public, private, and home schooled teens in the Big Bend, Montgomery Creek, Round Mountain, and Oak Run area, the youth from the Acorn Youth Group applied for a grant to support youth activities in a drug-free environment.
$1,000 Foothill High School Tanner Nordstrom Eagle Scout Project - Monumental School Sign Foothill High School is a relatively new school and the students wish to distinguish it as a major part of the town by constructing a monumental sign. Combined with the donations from local businesses, the GABY grant helped them do this.
$1,000 Native American Student Services Association at Anderson Union High School District Native Thunder - Sharing American Indian Heritage Through Our Youth The Native American Student Services Association has approximately 40 active students throughout Shasta County high schools. To help Native American students identify with their culture, the group started a drum group called Native Thunder. The grant supports their travel as they present at area schools.
$1,000 Teen Advocacy Group (TAG) Teen Advocacy Group Acoustic Night Project To provide artistic youth with an activity that is not sports-oriented, the TAG Teen Center applied for a grant to support Acoustic Night Activities where young musicians can showcase their art. The concerts will also serve as an educational and outreach forum for the Center.
$931 Teens at Heart DJ Equipment Teens at Heart is a youth advisory group that participates in community service activities and aim to get the teens in the City of Anderson more involved. This grant went to purchase DJ equipment that they will use to provide music at dances. They hope to start their own DJ service to help them do more fundraising.
$800 Friday Night Live - Shasta County Chemical People Drug Free Majority To promote healthy lifestyles, the youth at Friday Night Live wanted to use positive statistics instead of the common ‘scare tactics’ to relay a positive message to young people about smoking and drinking. The grant will support the production of t-shirts, keychains, and other materials to get the word out.
$662 Teens at Heart Basketball League In order to provide an activity for the teens in the City of Anderson, Teens at Heart wanted to create a basketball league. The grant helped them purchase equipment for the teams.
$550 Teens at Heart Youth Leadership Development Knowing the value of various conferences they have attended, the youth at Teens at Heart wanted to hold a conference of their own for local teens. The topics addressed included drug abuse, nutrition, and physical fitness.
$500 Family Planning, Inc. Youth Outreach Program Entertainment Equipment The Youth Outreach Program works to educate teens about reproductive health and connect them with services in the area. The grant has helped the center purchase equipment to enable them to hold educational group sessions.
