$2,500 Asian Resources Together We Grow Youth Garden For a group of teens in the Glen Elder/Avondale neighborhood of Sacramento, the Together We Grow community garden is a place where they can develop work ethic skills as well as meet youth from other cultures. The GABY grant helped to purchase garden supplies so that they can continue the project.
$2,100 Youth Making Opportunities Youth Opportunity Fair Serving youth in foster homes, group homes, and those that have been emancipated, the Youth Making Opportunities organization works with teens, helping them to get involved in their communities and learn life skills for living independently. The grant went to support a Youth Opportunity Fair where youth and adults came together. Youth were encouraged in positive outlets, enabling them to see themselves as valuable, productive member of their communities.
$2,013 Teens Reaching Out Community Carnival
Extravaganza
The students involved in Teens Reaching Out planned a community event where youth were educated on family unity, drug and violence prevention, gang awareness, and healthy living skills. The grant funded the event that took place on May 3.
$2,000 Mentorific Helpers Mobile Mentor Mural The grant will support the creation of a mural to be displayed on an El Dorado County transit bus. The mural, designed by youth participating in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, will be used to recruit adults to serve as mentors in the program.
$2,000 Teens Supporting Teens Youth

Program
Youth from Teens Supporting Teens applied for a grant to help to establish a mentoring program for teens with local businesses in the Woodland area. Youth participants received information about creating resumes and interviewing for jobs.
$1,500 Hand In Hand Holiday Gift
Distribution
Hand In Hand works to provide gifts to children who might not otherwise receive anything during the holidays and socks to senior citizens in need. The grant helped support the organization in their mission.
$1,500 Youth Creating Change Keeping It Real Youth from the Oak Park and Meadowview areas, many of whom are on probation or have had other problems in school, requested funding to create a mural to discourage young people from getting involved in negative activities and to support those doing positive things in the community. Once finished, the youth will publicly unveil the mural to the community and show a video about its creation.
$1,492 Hmong Women's Circle Using Creativity to Increase Support for
Teens
The Hmong Women’s Circle serves pre-teen and teen Hmong girls, teaching them about their culture. The grant will help to allow the expansion of a drama troupe that performs skits addressing issues and challenges in the Hmong teen community.
$1,200 BAGSS for Kids   BAGSS (Backpacks and General School Supplies) for Kids aims to supply foster children with supplies for school. The grant supported the distribution of 60 to 70 more backpacks for youth in Elk Grove.
$1,100 Junior Naturalists of Placer Nature Center Enriching Teen

The Junior Naturalists Program gives young people from the ages of 12 to 19 the chance to enhance their leadership skills while taking responsibility over and having interaction with younger children. The grant supported the expansion of this program.
$1,020 Gold Award Project Committee Backpacks for
Mustardseed School
The youth used the grant money to assemble backpacks with school supplies for 50 children to be donated to the Mustard Seed School in Sacramento. Mustard Seed serves homeless children in the area.
$1,000 Mira Loma High School Cultural Diversity
Expo 2003
In order to counteract the causes of stereotyping, discrimination, and racism, the students of Mira Loma High School applied for a grant to fund the design and transport of a cultural diversity fair to Placer High School. The fair included traditions and foods from cultures around the world that other students could experience.
$575 Girl Scout Troop 569 Sacramento Crisis

Art
The Girl Scout Troop Gold Award Project will benefit the Sacramento Crisis Nursery Center, serving children age 0-5 whose parents are experiencing a stressful situation. The troop used the grant to develop an arts and crafts guide binder containing 52 projects and a cabinet to store all of the materials.
