The Great Valley Center launched its energy programs in March 2003 to improve both the environment and the economy of the Central Valley. The region could easily become the state’s leading region in deploying and developing renewable energy and energy efficient technologies.

By making the right choices now, the Central Valley can sustainably meet its future growth in a manner that improves the region’s economy, environment, and energy independence.

The U.S. Department of Energy defines renewable energy as the use of, "...energy sources that are continually replenished by nature - the sun, the wind, water, the Earth's heat, and plants." U.S. DOE Energy Savers Website - Renewable Overview

Renewable energy is a potential, partial solution to several increasingly urgent problems that threaten the economic vitality, environmental health, and future evolution of the Central Valley region.
