Dr. Richard Jackson became California's
Public Health Officer in 2004 after serving
as senior advisor to the director of the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
and director of the National Center for
Environmental Health. Dr. Jackson believes
that healthy people and healthy environments
are inseparable and that neighborhoods
that encourage exercise can become our
best defense against chronic diseases.

force, initiating the first technology program
for community organizations. She received
the National Hispanic Woman of the Year Award
in 2004.

Dr. Perry has been a teacher, clinician
and researcher in children’s mental
health and the neurosciences and both basic neuroscience and clinical research
focused on high-risk children - examining long-term cognitive, behavioral, emotional,
social, and physiological effects of neglect and trauma. His work has been instrumental
in describing how childhood experiences, including neglect and traumatic stress,
change the biology of the brain – and, thereby, the health of the child.
ChildTrauma Academy, a not-for-profit organization which promotes innovations
in service, research and education in child maltreatment and childhood trauma.

is the author of a colorful coffee table book
titled Save Our Land, Save Our Towns. The book
is a plea for comprehensive planning to save
our cities, towns, and countryside. Hylton
also hosts a public television documentary
program called Save Our Land, Save Our Towns,
which has aired on more than 100 PBS stations
nationwide.
