Dr. Richard Jackson became California's Public Health Officer in 2004 after serving as senior advisor to the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and director of the National Center for Environmental Health. Dr. Jackson believes that healthy people and healthy environments are inseparable and that neighborhoods that encourage exercise can become our best defense against chronic diseases.

Sysco officials responded to the growing demand for sustainable products and product techniques by foodservice operators by starting a program designed to support farmer ownership and rural survival.
