Biography: Ellen Burnes

Dr. Ellen Burnes is professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at California State University, Fresno. She has been working in the area of energy production, development, and environmental regulation for the past 10 years. She completed her Ph.D. in Natural Resource and Environmental Economics at Oregon State University, and her MBA with a focus on Natural Resource Management at the University of Texas at Austin.

Her work focuses on the integration of renewable energy into mainstream energy systems. Since joining the faculty at CSU Fresno, she has concentrated on the opportunities for California agriculture to contribute to fuel and energy supply.

Currently, she is working with the Great Valley Center on a USDA Rural Development Grant to develop a business development template for small to medium ethanol producers. Other work through the Agricultural Research Initiative focuses on the economics and policy implications of California ethanol production.
