Biography : Anne M. Seeley
Active Communities Coordnator
Physical Activity and Health Initiative,
California Department of Health Services

Anne Seeley is Active Communities Coordinator with the Physical Activity and Health Initiative at the California Department of Health Services. Since its inception in October 1996, the ACE project (Active Community Environments) has been working collaboratively to implement policy and environmental approaches so that more places are walkable and bikable --- and more people are walking and biking more often.

A "early win" in California has been the emerging interest in Safe Routes to Schools; Anne works with colleagues in injury control to mobilize community support through education and funding, and through sponsorship of Walk to School Day events.

Anne is a year 2000 Environmental Fellow with the German Marshall Fund, administered by the Center for Clean Air Policy. This award enabled Anne to independently pursue research interests for one month in consultation with European colleagues, during March 2001.

Anne is proud to be a founding member of a regional advocacy group, Walk Sacramento.
