AMERICA'S ROLE IN THE WORLD: THE FUTURE OF FOOD

By the People: America in the World, a new initiative of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, aims to energize and enhance the national conversation on America's role in the world through a series of national and local broadcasts and events that demonstrate the relevance of foreign policy issues to local concerns. The project includes three national PBS specials, two cycles of local programming to be produced by PBS stations in cooperation with community organizations, national and local forums for civic dialogue, and an interactive web site.

On Tuesday, May 13 from 5:00-7:00 pm we will hold a moderated discussion forum that will be open to all conference attendees. Together we will examine a variety of different approaches to America’s role in feeding the world in a way that will help us all to grapple with our national and personal values. On Thursday, May 15 from 3:30-5:30 pm we will convene a panel of topical experts to address questions and concerns that arise from the discussion forum. Both events will be videotaped by KVIE, as part of their extended By The People programming. Further information is available at www.kvie.org/bythepeople.

KVIE-TV 6 has partnered with UC Davis, the state library system and a variety of nonprofit community organizations to engage the community in a dialogue about the effect of American food aid, trade policies and biotech exports on how the country is perceived abroad.
