EVENT BACKGROUND:

By 2050, the San Joaquin Valley’s population is projected to grow 139% – an increase equal to adding ten new cities the size of Fresno. Local elected officials have the ultimate responsibility to plan for the impacts of this growth on air quality, transportation, and land use.

Over the past 18 months, each of the eight Councils of Government in the San Joaquin Valley have simultaneously conducted public workshops with thousands of residents, facilitated discussions on community values and designed computer mapping tools to help craft a recommended transportation and land use “Blueprint” for the region. All of this work has been made possible with the support of Caltrans and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. The San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Executive Forum is an opportunity for elected officials to discuss the most critical issues in our region and to shape the outcome of the San Joaquin Valley Blueprint. The forum will answer questions that have been raised throughout the process:

  • What is regional, what is local?
  • Why should you participate in the Blueprint?
  • How will all the regional discussions impact your city and county?
  • What are the potential penalties and pay offs?
