Help Decide the Future San Joaquin County at a March Workshop!
The population of San Joaquin County is projected to double by 2030, and to grow by over a million new people by 2050! Such dramatic growth raises major questions: Where and how should we grow? How do we want this growth to affect our economy, agriculture, education, transportation, housing, air quality – in short, the quality of life for our children, our grandchildren, and ourselves?
The time for action is now! You and your neighbors have an unprecedented opportunity to help shape the future of San Joaquin County at nine upcoming workshops:

These Community Workshops will be fun and very participatory, including a “card game” and other hands-on activities. The workshops are part of the San Joaquin Valley Blueprint, which will help develop a vision to guide San Joaquin County’s growth over the next 50 years, beginning with input from residents like you! Where and how we grow presents many challenges that we need to address together. Whatever we as a community decide, you can be sure there will be trade-offs, so your input is critical!
We strongly encourage you to register in advance – and to let us know if you have any special needs for transportation, language interpretation, or accommodation for a disability to attend. To register, please visit www.sjcog.org or contact Anthony Zepeda, SJCOG Regional Planner, at 468-3913 or zepeda@sjcog.org.
We especially encourage young people to attend – after all, they are the ones who will be living in our vision!
San Joaquin is one of eight San Joaquin Valley counties sharing a $2.5 million grant to conduct this type of public planning process. The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) and other counties are organizing this public visioning process to help residents develop a preferred scenario for future growth leading to a higher quality of life for everyone!
Attached is an announcement and brochure with more details on the workshops and Blueprint process. Other workshops are still being scheduled in different locations in the unincorporated area, and will be posted on the SJCOG website once finalized. Please feel free to call the SJCOG office for more details, and encourage your co-workers, friends and family to attend, too! We want to hear from you!
