| In addition to being the Valley’s
economic base, Central Valley agriculture
provides open space, a rural way of life,
flood control, ground water recharge and
habitat for a large variety of wildlife.
Maintaining this unique resource requires
the involvement of landowners, policy makers,
and urban residents.
GVC’s Agricultural Programs are designed
to increase the agricultural industry’s
awareness of land conservation tools and
support the work of Central Valley land
trusts. Through educational seminars and
publications, GVC Agricultural Programs
inform farmers, appraisers, attorneys, bankers
and the local community on voluntary options
to keep Valley farmland in production.
The Agricultural Programs exist as a local
Valley-based contact point for information,
a source of financial support and as a neutral
convener.

Agricultural Programs funds real estate
transactions that permanently protect farmland
in the Central Valley. Currently our resources
are being focused into three Partnership
Communities (Yolo, Stanislaus and Merced
counties) that have demonstrated a commitment
to protecting farmland through existing
policies, future plans and collaboration
among stakeholders.
In addition, our program supports the institutional
development of Central Valley land trusts
and outreach related to conservation, public
policy and economic development. |
