Our Facilities

Our headquarters

On July 22, 2003, GVC moved into its permanent offices, a 1920s era building in downtown Modesto that GVC adaptively renovated for office use.

After nearly two years of renovation planning led by R.K. Stewart of Gensler Architecture/San Francisco and staff involvement at every step, the building marked a significant milestone for GVC.

Built in 1920, the historic building includes over 12,000 sq. ft. of office space and a community meeting room featuring 25 ft. high ceilings.

The renovation team brought together touches that reflect both the character of building's period and the Center's mission of improving quality of life in the Great Central Valley. Among the unique elements include oak hardwood floors from salvaged pulp log decks, flaxseed linoleum flooring, and even door hardware made from recycled soda pop bottles.

The restoration of the Art Deco style building included contributions from artists around the Central Valley.

Matthew Frye, a Clovis-area tile maker incorporated indigenous motifs such as red squirrels and California quails. Modesto-native Lucinda Foy produced a 35-foot long oil on canvas WPA-style mural depicting the Valley over time. Work by Reedley artist and farmer Paul Buxman and Fresno artist Vincent Mendez is also featured prominently.

Building Tour

Come on in!

After outgrowing our first location at 911 13th Street after just four years, GVC purchased and renovated a 1920s church in downtown Modesto in 2001 to serve as our permanent headquarters.

We've created a space that is fun to work in, great for meetings and that incorporates technology, the Valley's history and culture and a sense of humor. We hope to see you soon.
